Statement in Solidarity with Workers Denouncing ICE Out of MN

January 23, 2026

Labor for Democracy (L4D) stands in solidarity with Minnesotans saying ”No!” to work, school and shopping, in protest of Operation Metro Surge and the killing of Renee Good. Furthermore, we, as labor unions and labor allied organizations, stand with those communities across the U.S. fighting back against the inhuman treatment of those being targeted by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and Customs and Border Patrol (CBP).

We join with labor unions in MN and others in the call for truth and freedom in MN and everywhere where working people are rising up. With our communities, we demand a country that works for us, not just the billionaires and big corporations. And with our nation as we unite in the face of authoritarianism.

We urge labor unions and working people to take action and ensure that union members engage in discussions, planning, education and direct action at this moment because we can not stand by while authoritarians disrupt our families and communities.

We condemn in the strongest possible terms the killing of Renee Good in Minneapolis, Silverio Villegas González in Chicago, and Keith Porter in Los Angeles. All three were killed by ICE and Border Patrol agents deployed to American cities. We demand independent criminal investigations and, where warranted, vigorous prosecution of those responsible for these deaths.

We denounce the use of U.S. government resources, including the deployment of ICE and CBP agents, to terrorize and harass everyday working people taking their kids to school, earning money to support their families, shopping for groceries and other everyday life activities, including going to immigration court as required to fulfill their legal responsibilities.

We note that while the purported target of these dragnets are immigrants, in fact all members of the community are impacted. Labor for Democracy recognizes that the same forces working to lower wages at our jobs are enabling the brutalization of our communities. All so that billionaires continue to rake in profits at the expense of working folks and especially people of color and other minorities. This campaign of racist, xenophobic and nativist terror must end.

Labor for Democracy is a network of labor unions committed to defending our fundamental rights to demonstrate and organize collective power in the face of Trump administration attacks on labor rights, unions, working people and democracy itself. We represent an ever-growing, inclusive movement of labor organizations, elected union leaders, and rank-and-file members who oppose the billionaire-backed government takeover and pledge to advance the cause of democratic governance in all sectors of society.
