L4D’s Statement on U.S. Attack on Venezuela
January 8, 2026
Labor for Democracy, a network of labor unions committed to upholding democratic ideals, condemns the U.S. government’s unauthorized and illegal strikes on Venezuela. These actions, which come at great taxpayer expense and put the lives of our armed forces at risk, were carried out without the consent of the governed, the American people.
We will not stand by while the Trump administration wages war on behalf of the billionaire class, including wealthy oil barons, while at home we can’t even afford our groceries. We are calling on every elected official in this country to condemn this unwarranted aggression and violation of our Constitution. Our government should work for us, not greedy Big Oil billionaires.
As labor unions, we see this military adventurism as a direct drain on the funding and resources we need in our communities. Whether at the bargaining table or in our neighborhoods, working people continue to see wages stagnate and lack of investment in our communities.
Furthermore, the continued attack on immigrants in the U.S. leaves Venezuelans residing in the U.S. in a very precarious situation, particularly those who had been under Temporary Protected Status.
We call on working people to join protests denouncing the attacks on our communities and other countries and to contact their elected officials demanding that they use their power to curtail the undemocratic and unconstitutional actions of the Trump administration.
Labor for Democracy is a network of labor unions committed to defending our fundamental rights to demonstrate and organize collective power in the face of Trump administration attacks on labor rights, unions, working people and democracy itself. We represent an ever-growing, inclusive movement of labor organizations, elected union leaders, and rank-and-file members who oppose the billionaire-backed government takeover and pledge to advance the cause of democratic governance in all sectors of society.
